Attorney Brian Houghtaling is dedicated to fighting for families and business owners facing complex insurance issues, namely those related to flood and hurricane insurance. He experienced first-hand how insurance companies work to reduce, deny or delay insurance benefits rightly owed to people affected by storms. He fights aggressively on their behalves.
Hurricane and Flood Insurance Lawyer
Mr. Houghtaling has resolved more than 3,000 residential and business claims, leading to over $100 million recovered on behalf of his clients. He has helped families and business owners affected by recent major storms:
- Hurricane Harvey
- Hurricane Katrina
- Hurricane Sandy
- Hurricane Gustav
- Hurricane Ivan
- Hurricane Ike
Mr. Houghtaling was born and raised in New Orleans. His own family was affected by hurricane Katrina. In the aftermath, he saw how insurers treated his family, neighbors and friends, and dedicated himself to fighting such injustices. He handled more than 1,000 claims related to Katrina.
After hurricane Sandy devastated New York and New Jersey properties, Mr. Houghtaling discovered an engineering report that had been fraudulently modified to deny coverage for storm damage. After confronting the National Flood Insurance Program with the evidence of fraud, Mr. Houghtaling was able to change the course for thousands of people affected by Sandy. He is driven by helping people who are dealing with large, intimidating and powerful insurance companies.
In 2006, Mr. Houghtaling was admitted to the Louisiana Bar. He is licensed to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana, as well as the Southern and Eastern Districts of Texas.
