Honda, Mazda, Nissan and Toyota are recalling about 3.3 million vehicles sold in the United States and around the world due to defective air bags that can deploy with excessive force, shooting metal shards into the passenger space.

If you were hurt or a loved one was killed in a car accident that was the result of a defective vehicle or faulty part, the Mobile, Alabama, product liability attorneys at Long & Long are here to help you pursue the financial security you need to deal with medical expenses and other damages.

The ongoing air bag recall affects approximately 1.4 million vehicles in the United States. The faulty air bags were produced by the same Japanese manufacturer, Takata Corporation, which also sold the air bags to General Motors (GM); according to an April 11 article in The New York Times, GM, which owned the now-defunct Pontiac brand, is planning to announce a recall of nearly 50,000 2003 Pontiac Vibes.

Vehicles already officially recalled include:

  • Toyota: 2001-2003 Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Sequoia and Tundra
  • Honda: 2002-2003 CR-V, 2001-2003 Civic and 2002 Odyssey
  • Nissan: 2001-2003 Maxima, Pathfinder and Sentra
  • Mazda: 2003-2004 Mazda 6 and 2004 RX-8

Toyota, which owns the Lexus line, has also recalled 2001-2003 model year Lexus SC 430s. Nissan, which administers the Infiniti brand, is recalling 2001-2003 Infiniti FXs and Infiniti QX4s.
