Between June 2nd and June 8th, construction companies are reminded to take part in the National Fall Prevention Stand-Down and take some time to talk with their employees about fall hazards and fall prevention.
The leading cause of deaths among construction workers is due to falls that were preventable. The Safety Stand-Down encourages companies to lead a discussion or simply chat during lunch reminding employees about fall safety. They are also asked to discuss safety hazards and rescue plans with their employees.
This safety reminder is being partnered by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), and several other state and federal programs that wish to help put an end to construction accidents.
According to OSHA, 34% of all construction deaths in 2012 were due to a fall that could have been avoided by following proper fall protection protocols.
