In an enormous recall, the Tokyo-based company, Takata, has begun the process of replacing defective airbags in over 10 million vehicles worldwide. The defective airbags have caused at least 4 deaths already so the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is urging those with defective airbags to have them inspected immediately.
These defective airbags have the possibility of spontaneously exploding or malfunctioning when they’re supposed to expand, shooting shrapnel at the drivers they’re supposed to be protecting.
So far, there have been Takata airbags identified in many models of Toyota, Nissan, Honda, BMW, General Motors, and Mazda vehicles.
