An Alabama husband and wife who were on a cross-country motorcycle trip were involved in a fatal motorcycle accident when they were trying to make a U-turn. According to police reports, the couple had pulled off to the side of the road before attempting to cross traffic and ride in the opposite direction.
When the husband and wife pulled back into the road, a semi-truck hit them. The wife died instantly, but the husband survived and was flown to a local hospital. The truck driver was not injured at all.
In a contest between motorcycle and semi-truck, the commercial truck is always going to win, which is why riders need to take extra care when close to large vehicles. Truck drivers have large blind spots on all four sides of their vehicles, so they may not see a small motorcycle.
Police are still investigating this fatal motorcycle/truck accident to determine who was at fault for the death of the Alabama woman.
